Former Nairobi County speaker Beatrice Elachi has claimed that ODM Party leader Raila Odinga will be the ‘Mandela of Kenya’ when elected the president in the August polls.

Speaking in an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, she said that she would support Raila because of his manifesto.

“When he becomes the President, he will be the ‘Mandela’. He will give us new a Kenya,” Elachi said.

She said that Raila was free to mention anyone whom he thinks is not fit to be in his government.

"I want a leader who has mercy, respect, and forgiveness," Elachi said.

She further said the Jubilee government should take responsibility for all the failures and shortcomings during their tenure in the government.

“Everyone who has been in the Jubilee government since 2013 is responsible. We cannot run away from the problems they have brought in our country,” Elachi said.

Elachi claimed that during the first five years when Jubilee took over, the country was subjected to debts.

“We have refused to look into some of the challenges that brought us where we are,” Elachi said.

Further, the former speaker claimed that the nullification of the 2017 election led the country into a trench since the money that was used for the repeat election was meant for other projects.

“We have made corruption a political tool, yet it is our country that we are talking about. We have debts and there is corruption in our country that we cannot run away from," she said.

Earlier, Deputy President William Ruto said that he would take full credit for the Jubilee government's projects' success during its 10-year tenure.

"And I want to tell hawa watu wa Azimio wawache kutuingilia na mambo ya track record ya serikali yetu. We will claim every credit ya ile kazi imefanywa na hii serikali kwa sababu sisi ndio tulimchagua Uhuru Kenyatta awe rais wa Kenya na kura zetu," Ruto  said.

Loosely translated; "I want to tell the Azimio la Umoja team to stop questioning the government's track record. We will claim every credit of the work done by the government because we are the ones who voted for President Uhuru with our votes".

"...Watu wa azimio have no share in this government because they were nowhere when we were forming it".
