ODM leader Raila Odinga has said that President Uhuru Kenyatta will be his advisor if he forms the next administration.

As President Kenyatta prepares to exit office in three months' time, Raila said he will be seeking advice from him regularly on the day-to-day running operations of government.

"I will be seeking his advice just like he has been consulting me on different national matters during his second term in government," Raila said during an interview with BBC on Tuesday.

The former Prime Minister said other options for Uhuru when he retires would be for him "to do business or be a foreign diplomat serving in the African Union."

"There are many things the President can do when he leaves office," Raila said.

Last weekend, President Kenyatta officially endorsed his handshake partner Raila as Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate.

President Uhuru, in his speech at Raila’s coronation ceremony held at KICC, Nairobi, said he had faith in his former rival, whom they shook hands in March 2018, after heated polls.

“I have faith in Odinga’s ability to transform this country and ensure it remained peaceful, united and a key player in regional affairs,” he said.

He said the former premier was capable of fighting corruption in the country.

Speaking during the National Governing Convention on Friday, Raila said the August 9 polls would only strengthen the Uhuru-Raila bond.

He further said ODM and Jubilee came together to unite Kenyans and ensure development, and this was not going to stop after the election.

"When we take over, we will continue with the work he has started and move on. This bond will not die with the elections," Raila said.

"The elections are just going to strengthen it and we will work together moving forward."
