Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe has insisted that ODM leader Raila Odinga will clinch the Presidency in the August 9, polls.

Speaking to Citizen TV on Tuesday evening, Murathe said the ODM leader will garner 64 per cent of the total votes cast.

Murathe added that Raila will bag more votes from the Mt Kenya region than what he will get in his Luo Nyanza backyard.

"In this election, I can assure you of how Raila will get 64 per cent. Mt Kenya will give Raila more votes than what he will get in his native Nyanza," he said.

At the same time, he said Raila's win is not pegged on the political direction the Mt Kenya region will take.

The Jubilee Vice-Chair said the ODM leader has kept his former support bases intact and that means the votes he will get from the Mt Kenya region will serve as a top-up.

He implored the Mt Kenya region to back Raila saying they better support him for the top seat because he is the likely candidate to win.

"Raila is winning this election with or without the votes of the people of Mt. Kenya. They better decide whether he is winning it with them onboard or without them," Murathe said.

The Jubilee official dismissed the recent defection of the Mt Kenya leaders to the UDA saying they are meant for optics.

He noted that the defections are inconsequential considering many incumbent MPs hardly retain their seats in the Mt Kenya region.

Murathe, however, admitted that the move could help the DP in fuelling massive turnout but at the same time said that is not a worry for them.

"They are trying to create a wave not only for Mt. Kenya but for the rest of the country to confuse people; these are just clever optics. It is a voter turnout strategy which is very smart of Ruto," he said.

On Mt Kenya getting the DP slot in the Azimio coalition, Murathe said: "For us, it does not matter. We just want our fair share of government".
