• Malala met with leaders from the Mount Kenya region and said they agreed to work together.
• The Senator on Saturday warned that the running mate slot is not a preserve of the Mt Kenya region.
Barely a week after Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala said the DP slot in Kenya Kwanza Alliance is for the ANC party, a meeting was convened on Monday to iron out differences that emerged from the remarks.
Malala met with leaders from the Mt Kenya region during which, he said, they agreed to work together and focus their energy on winning the presidency.
“The Mountain and Mulembe Nation will work together to deliver the 5th president of the Republic of Kenya. Privileged to have met leaders from the expansive Mt.kenya region for a candid tête a tête on the same.,” Malala said.
Among those he met were deputy president William Ruto, Embu Senator Peter Njeru Ndwiga, MPs Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Kimani Ichung'wa (Kikuyu), John Njuguna Kawanjiku among others.
On Saturday, Malala warned that the DP slot is not a preserve of the Mt Kenya region.
He said if UDA gets the Presidency, the ANC party should be given the running mate slot.
Malala argued that the Kenya Kwanza Alliance is not a coalition of regions but parties.
“We are saying that we have our full support behind William Ruto as the Kenya Kwanza presidential flag bearer, but we are demanding that the slot of deputy president should be handed to ANC party and that should be Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi,” Malala said.
He reiterated that it is time for the ANC party to get the post of the DP saying the ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi is the most qualified for the seat.
