- The Chama Cha Kazi leader is expected to publicly declare his political plans.
- Although couched as Kuria’s homecoming and prayer event, the rally is loaded with heavy political significance.
Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has invited leading presidential candidates for his grand thanksgiving ceremony at Thika Stadium on Saturday.
Although couched as Kuria’s a homecoming and prayer event, the rally is loaded with heavy political significance.
The Chama Cha Kazi leader is expected to publicly declare his political plans after announcing that he will not be defending his seat.
Kuria has confirmed that he had extended invitation to big political players including Deputy President William Ruto and ODM boss Raila Odinga.
"I have invited everybody. I have invited all the presidential candidates. My duty is to invite, their duty is to attend. I cannot tell you who is going to attend and who is not going to," he said.
Kuria is expected to jet into the country on Saturday morning before heading straight to Thika Stadium for the prayer session.
The CCK leader spoke in an interview with Citizen TV on Wednesday night where he also remained noncommittal on whether he will back Ruto for presidency.
“It is not a constitutional requirement to support a presidential candidate,” Kuria said when asked if he will rally behind Ruto.
The MP said that he was not consulted in the formation of the Kenya Kwanza that brings together Ruto, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula, saying he has questions for the DP.
“By the time I was leaving Kenya I was in the Hustler movement but how it changed to Kenya Kwanza, I have not received a memo.
"The last time I was around, Mudavadi and Wetangula were in OKA, so am I supposed to sheepishly jump in without understanding what happened? "he said.
Kuria said he would be crazy to join Kenya Kwanza or Raila’s Azimio as they were formed when he was in a hospital bed.
“I will be crazy to say that I support things that were formed while I was ill. I just get anecdotes of what they stand for, I don’t understand them and I need time,” he said.
It is not clear if Ruto will attend the meeting after it emerged that Kuria could have met President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila in Dubai.
The Kenya Kwanza campaign programme shows that they will camp in Meru county on Saturday, the same day Kuria will be holding his prayer rally.
There are reports that Ruto’s team is closely monitoring Kuria’s steps before making the final decision on whether to attend or not.
However, Ruto's allies had earlier claimed that they are part of the organising team for the Kuria event and that Ruto would attend.
Raila is yet to jet back into the country after his trip to India that also took him to Dubai.
