Three suspects have been arraigned at Makadara law courts after they were arrested for allegedly spiking drinks of two men and stealing from them.

Peter Ng’ethe, Joshua Sagana, both students, and a rider, Joash Mabinda are accused of drugging Sylvance Wanjala and his companion so they could rob them.

The court heard that the trio committed the offence on January 16, 2020, at an apartment along Lumumba drive, Kasarani subcounty.

“With intent to steal, you drugged Sylvance Wanjala with unknown drugs and stole from his Cooperative Bank account Sh210,000 and Sh36,000 that was on his M-Pesa account, a mobile phone and a wristwatch worth Sh66,000,” the charge sheet reads.

Among the items stolen included an ID card, job card, driving licence, and Resolution Insurance card.

The complainant with a companion checked into the apartment for refreshment. They were shown a room by Sagana who later joined them in the merrymaking.

Moments later, Sagana invited Ng'ethe who tagged along two women who were brought in by boda boda rider Mabinda.

They all had drinks before Wanjala and his companion blacked out only for them to wake up the following morning. The accused persons and the two women had disappeared.

Wanjala’s friend also lost money. The two visited a nearby medical facility for treatment before informing the police.

The accused persons were traced and apprehended but none of them admitted stealing from the victims. They claimed that they don’t know what transpired that night until the victims lost the items.

The trio appeared before principal magistrate Everlyn Kanyiri and pleaded not guilty while asking for lenient bond terms, saying they have little money since the two are students and Joash is a rider with meagre earnings.

The court granted them a bond of Sh1 million.
