Senators allied to deputy president William Ruto have claimed that some of their colleagues and senate staff have been barred from travelling out of the country.

The leaders claim the order barring them from exiting the country has been issued by the executive due to the pending Coalitions Bill.

The lawmakers said on the floor on Tuesday that some of their colleagues were denied clearance by immigration officials.

Kericho senator Aaron Cheruiyot was the first to raise the issue on the floor moments after a report of a committee on the controversial bill was tabled.

"Senators have been stopped at the airport because of the pending business," Cheruiyot said as he demanded answers from speaker Kenneth Lusaka in the revelations.

He claimed that the immigration officials have told senators seeking to travel abroad that they have been instructed not to clear them

Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula said their Kwale colleague Issa Boy and his family were stopped at the airport.
