Covid-19: 23 succumb as 91 new cases are recorded

Kenya on Sunday recorded 91 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country's case load to 320,229, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said.

The CS in a press briefing confirmed that this was from a sample size of 3,229 recording a positivity rate of 2.8 per cent.

The cumulative tests stand at 3,186,286.

The country's fatalities have risen to 5,554 after another 23 patients succumbed to the disease.

Kagwe said that there are 746 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,011 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

40 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 38 of them on ventilatory support while two are on supplemental oxygen.

Another 172 patients are on supplemental oxygen and all of them are in the general wards. No patient is in the High Dependency Unit(HDU).

Meanwhile, 1,814 patients have recovered from the disease, 1,676from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 138 are from various health facilities countrywide.

Total recoveries now stand at 291,361 of whom 239,448 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 51,913 are from various health facilities countrywide.

VACCINATION CAMPAIGN

As of January 22, a total of 11,542,128 vaccines have been administered across the country. Of these, 6,315,808 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 5,074,497.

Another 36,765 are doses administered to those between 15 to18 years while 115,058 are booster doses.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 60.7 per cent.

Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 18.6 per cent.

The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
