Several parts of Nairobi CBD are yet to have power hours after the Kenya Power announced restoration progress.

Nairobi CBD, Embakasi, Kilimani, Hurlingham, Syokimau, Athi River, Mlolongo, and its adjacent areas are the areas still under blackout.

In a statement on Tuesday evening, the company said that the Embakasi power transmission line that evacuates power to Athi River, Embakasi, and City Center bulk substations developed a sustained fault.

“Kenya Power technical team are working jointly with our counterparts at the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO to locate the fault, rectify it and restore the supply as soon as possible,” the statement reads.

There was a nationwide outage on Tuesday morning following the collapse of towers on the Kiambere-Embakasi high voltage transmission power line.

"We wish to apologise to our customers for the inconveniences caused," it said.

But by afternoon, the company announced the restoration of electricity in some regions including Western Kenya, Mt Kenya, North Rift, South Nyanza, and Central Rift.

The company said that its team was still working to ensure that the power is restored to the other remaining regions.

The statement came after an uproar on social media as Kenyans from several areas within Nairobi claimed that they did not have power, seeking clarification from the company that had included Nairobi to the regions that its issue had been resolved.
