Deputy President William Ruto on Tuesday said the next Head of State will not be imposed on Kenyans.

The DP insisted that the country's 5th President will not be elected in a boardroom but by the people of Kenya in free and fair elections.

Ruto spoke at Kona Mbaya in Likuyani Constituency,  Kakamega County, during his Presidential campaigns targeting the Western region.

“In this Kenya, there are people full of chest thumping and arrogance, some 50 people in Nairobi want to decide for us who will be in the next president because they have money. We must end this (chest thumping and arrogance),” Ruto said.

He went on: "They must know that even if you have one billion shillings you only have one vote like anyone else.”

The DP was referring to the powerful Mt Kenya Foundation-the elite club of business tycoons from President Uhuru Kenyatta's backyard.

The tycoons have endorsed ODM boss Raila Odinga as their preferred choice to succeed Uhuru.

They settled on Raila after subjecting him alongside other One Kenya principals for interviews at Safari Park Hotel.

Oka's Musalia Mudavadi(ANC), Kalonzo Musyoka(Wiper), Gideon Moi(Kanu) and Moses Wetangula of Ford Kenya attended their own interview session.

IMPERIAL PRESIDENT

On Tuesday, Ruto said Kenyans must stand up against what he termed as "arrogance and chest thumping" by the elite group and which he noted is only out to protect their vast business interests.

The DP said his competitors in the State House race have nothing to offer to ordinary Kenyans other than pushing Constitutional amendments to create an imperial President.

He said Raila through his handshake sabotaged the Jubilee’s Big Four Agenda which was to - among others - check unemployment amongst the youths.

“We had good plans in the Big Four but few people sat and sabotaged the programme because they don’t want anything good for the million poor Kenyans,” he said.

His statements appeared to be directed at Raila whom he has accused of destroying Jubilee programmes after his handshake with Uhuru.

The DP said that if elected President in August his administration will pump billions of shillings into the economy to ensure unemployed youths and small-scale traders are supported.

“Our first agenda this August is to set aside Sh100 billion on housing, Agro-processing value addition and manufacturing to address the high unemployment amongst our youths,” he stated.

In another bid to endear himself to the majority of poor Kenyans, the DP promised a further Sh50 billion targeting small scale traders if he wins the August polls.

The DP is on an extensive tour of Western Kenya to market his Presidential bid as he seeks to woo the region's bigwigs to support him.
