Politics took the centre stage at the 41st Maragoli Cultural Festival held at Mbale Town on Sunday.

Among the leaders present were ANC party Leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula, area MP Ernest Kagesi, Mp Alfred Agoi (Sabatia), Vihiga Woman MP Beatrice Adagala among others.

ANC leader Mudavadi maintained he won't back down in his bid to be Kenya's fifth president even as he reminded the Luhya community that he won't let them down.

Mudavadi said Kenyans must be given an opportunity to freely elect the leaders they want without being coerced otherwise.

The ANC leader further at the same time dismissed COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli accusing him of imposing leaders on the community.

“Your vote must count for who you want to lead, not the purported Bukhungu meeting that will be determining who will be the Governor, MP, woman rep and MCA,” Mudavadi said.

“I won’t attend such meetings as an individual."

Remarks by Mudavadi preceded the Azimio La Magharibi event set to be held in Bukuhungu Stadium in Kakagema.

The event convened by Atwoli is reportedly set to give the Luhya nation political direction and at the same time endorse the ODM leader Raila Odinga for the Presidency.

Mudavadi who appears overlooked in the arrangements dismissed the gatherings and said he won't be a party to the developments.

According to Mudavadi, Kenyans have the right to choose their leaders according to their wishes.

Mudavadi also weighed in on the Political Parties Amendment Bill, 2021, saying the law will interfere with the forthcoming elections.

He said Kenyans with Huduma Namba are few hence many will be denied a chance to cast their votes in the event it is used in the 2022 polls.

“Even the underage have been given the Huduma Namba. Computer experts can use that to sabotage the incoming election,” he said.
