- "We do not want to see chaos and post-election violence that leaves people dead, injured, displaced and others counting different types of losses," Wamatangi said.
- "Peace, coexistence and unity are the only virtues that will make us achieve a lot as country, let us jealously guard peace,” the senator said.
Kenyans have been urged to support the government’s efforts to keep peace during campaigns.
Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi urged parents to speak with their children so they do not participate in chaotic activities that may arise during the campaigns, on election day and after the polls.
The senator spoke on Sunday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lioki, Githunguri.
He said the government, churches and other organisations are approaching the issue using different strategies, so that the whole process can be peaceful.
"We do not want to see chaos and post-election violence that leaves people dead, injured, displaced and others counting different types of losses. We want to continue living peacefully and with a lot of respect," Wamatangi said.
He said the country has attained social, economic and political growth since 1963.
“As a nation, we have attained some things we desired, and failed in others. But united in purpose, we will achieve what was envisioned 57 years ago.
"Peace, coexistence and unity are the only virtues that will make us achieve a lot as a country. Let us jealously guard peace,” the senator said.
He urged people to use social media for the purpose of passing credible information but not spreading hatred, misleading and inciting information.
He warned that the government was keen on spotting anyone who spreads such information.
Wamatangi said aspirants have started visiting people in their villages, estates and urban areas to introduce themselves as they seek support.
The country has also been glued to the unfolding politics of Deputy President William Ruto of UDA, ODM leader Raila Odinga and the OKA team led by Musalia Mudavadi of ANC.
