Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Waiguru has responded to his Nakuru counterpart Lee Kinyanjui's remarks cautioning presidential aspirants from investing too much in the Mt Kenya region.

In a statement, Waiguru agreed with part of his sentiments, insisting that people from the region had also suffered like the rest of Kenyans.

The governor said people from Mt Kenya will vote for Deputy President William Ruto, whom she described as 'a messenger they feel' and that they will use their heads and hearts when making their choice for president.

"While I agree that Mt Kenya wants a leader who will represent their interests- it’s definitely not in the traditional sense... This time, they will vote with both their heads and hearts; A message they understand and a messenger they feel! William Samoei Ruto," she said on Tuesday.

Governor Kinyanjui had warned that presidential aspirants are investing too much in the mountain could end up regretting it.

He said the region will decide who to vote for in 2022 based on real issues and not the number of harambees, roadside shows or tokens to individuals.

"All we ask is caution while pursuing this bloc. Do not invest too much because you are likely to regret it. From the last five elections since the introduction of multiparty, the region has voted with its head, not heart," Kinyanjui wrote on Facebook.

"Interests and only interests will reign supreme."

Kinyanjui noted that some of the things people from the mountain will be looking at include; if one supported them when they wanted one man one shilling one vote and when they sought equality of the vote, as well as if one supported their kin while in office.

The Nakuru Governor said that they will also look at an individual's stand on free enterprise and the fight against corruption.
