Communications Authority has suspended Pastor James Ng’ang’a’s Sasa TV for 6 months for airing inappropriate content.

In a statement on Saturday, Director-General Ezra Chiloba said the decision was arrived at following investigations.

Chiloba said after the probe, it was found that the content is considered inappropriate .

“Investigations established that the TV station violated provisions of the Kenya Information and Communications Act 1998,” he said.

Sasa TV was further directed to ensure it has adequate and qualified personnel who are duly accredited by the media council council of Kenya.

“The staff must undergo mandatory training on appropriate operations of the profanity delay mechanisms system, management of live broadcast, broadcasting legal framework, consumer protection and complaints handling,” he said.

Chiloba also ordered the station to develop and implement adequate internal controls to ensure compliance with broadcast content standards

“Non adherence to these directives may attract further sanctions revocation of sasa tv license,” he said.

A month ago Ng'ang'a, who is currently in the US, dismissed a letter from Media council that questioned Sas Tv.

In a video, Ng'ang'a  said the the media is only answerable to the Communications Authority.

“As far as I know, I am not under Media Council of Kenya but under CA. We report to the CA and I receive the letter from them giving me a warning,” Ng'ang'a said.

The pastor said that the council should find a better way to address him, and that is the only way where he will be able to dispatch his lawyer to answer the council’s question.

“I am a preacher, not under anybody…to preach what or what depends on the message that I have.”
