ODM presidential aspirant Jimi Wanjigi has said that no one is above the law.

In a statement reacting to Thursday's High Court ruling sentencing DCI boss George Kinoti to four months imprisonment, the businessman said the law must be obeyed and applied by all.

"We are very happy with that ruling of the High court. There’s nobody who’ above the law, the rule of law must be applied equally to every single Kenyan," Wanjigi said.

"Those who think that these are the days of impunity should read the Constitution of this country which was passed in 2010."

Wanjigi faulted the current government for frequently disobeying court orders, insisting that the future is about the rule of law applying to all, regardless of the position you hold.

"This government and its ants have a track record of not obeying court orders."

High Court Judge Anthony Mrima sentenced DCI Director George Kinoti to four months imprisonment for failing to obey a court order requiring him to release firearms belonging to businessman Jimi Wanjigi.

ULIMATUM

Kinoti is required to surrender to prison within seven days failure to which the Inspector General of Police should effect a warrant of arrest against him.

"In the further event the IG of Police fails to execute the warrant, the same shall remain valid and be executed anytime including when Kinoti leaves the office of the DCI," Judge Mrima said.

Mrima had directed the DCI, Inspector General of Police and the DPP to return all firearms and ammunition taken from Wanjigi's residence in 2017.

The sought firearms are one pistol, a Smith and Wesson, one Glock pistol, one assault rifle among others.

Speaking in Thika during a meeting with university students, Wanjigi also called out ODM leader Raila Odinga for saying the party nominations will be done through consensus.

He added that a few people should not lock themselves in a room and pretend to decide who will be a candidate for MCA, MP, Governor or president.

"This party belongs to the people and they must decide who they want and when they want them."

The businessman insisted that it is clearly laid out in the party constitution and they should not be afraid to be challenged

"The people decide who their leaders are. No shortcuts," Wanjigi said.
