Deputy President William Ruto has said he will not let conmen lead the country for another five years.

He said those attacking his character are the hypocrites who are used to using and dumping their friends after they get what they want.

Ruto called on Kenyans to be wary of leaders who come to them with beautiful words with little action.

“I helped them get to power. Now they are calling me names. They should go away,” Ruto said at Changamwe.

He said his administration will embrace a new brand of politics, devoid of tribalism and corruption to save Kenya from doom.

Ruto, who toured Changamwe and Jomvu subcounties in day two of his Mombasa leg of the five-day Coast tour, said Kenya cannot be led by conmen.

He warned Kenyans that the same leaders will come to them selling tribal cards and asked Kenyans to reject them.

“We do not want tribal politics and politics of hatred. We want to unite so we can take our challenges head on.

“We can only overcome our challenges if we are united. Don’t buy fear. Don’t buy ethnicity. Don’t buy hate. Don’t buy division,” said the DP.

Ruto said unemployment, insecurity and poor business environment are the challenges Kenyans need to tackle, noting that his administration has a solution for exactly that.

The DP said his team is made up of people from different political parties who got tired of shenanigans and decided to stand with the truth.

“They have all come to the party of hustlers called UDA, whose symbol is the wheelbarrow,” Ruto said.

He said the wheelbarrow will change the country for the better.

Speaking in Changamwe, Ruto said he fought for and defended ODM leader Raila Odinga in 2007 until he became Prime Minister almost at the expense of his own freedom.

He said Raila has never shown appreciation for his efforts, saying he is the first one to throw stones at him.

“I pushed and pushed and almost got jailed at the Hague until he became Prime Minister. Is it true or not?

“I campaigned for my friend President Uhuru, he won the seat. Maraga brought problems. I pushed again and he became president again.

“This time, I have told them to wait so I can push these jobless youth to get jobs. Is there any wrong I have done?” Ruto posed.

Nyali MP Mohammed Ali said the ‘real politics’ will start in 2022, dismissing the 2013 and the 2017 administrations as fake.

“The day he is sworn in the first order of duty he should take the port back to Mombasa from Naivasha,” Ali said at Changamwe.

He said Mombasa should be Kenya’s second biggest city that contributes the second highest amount to the exchequer.

However, he said, this has not happened because of poor leadership.

“The second order of business is to make sure we have the right leadership in Mombasa,” Ali said.

The Nyali MP said party politics has hurt the Kenyan economy, especially in Mombasa where he said the leadership has not been up to per.

“In 2013 we were promised a Dubai. Today, Mombasa is Kariokor,” Ali said.

Similarly, he said, Kenyans were promised salvation in Canaan in 2017.

“Canaan turned out to be Harambee House,” he said.

This time, he said, Mombasa county residents have woken up and will vote in leaders who will work for them.

Former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar said UDA will take on ODM head-on and vanquish it.

“I am the only one who can go against Joho,” he said.

“I will not protect his wealth. I will protect the resources of the Mombasa county.”
