- All indications are that Mt Kenya Foundation is going to support the candidate President Uhuru Kenyatta will support.
- Mt Kenya Foundation can only do one thing: put sense into the One Kenya Alliance.
The One Kenya Alliance does not have the numbers or the influence that it takes to win a presidential election.
Therefore, the plan of the four principals of One Kenya Alliance should be to make themselves relevant.
If you look at the effects ODM leader Raila Odinga has in Mt Kenya, not just during the meeting with the Mt Kenya Foundation, but also across the country, you will realise pretty quickly that he is on a league of his own. This is something that One Kenya Alliance team knows.
They understand that even if they stick together, it will be very difficult to beat Raila. This is the reason that makes them insist Raila should not run. They, however, have no basis to say that a citizen of Kenya with an ID and a voter's card should not run for president.
It, therefore, means if Mt Kenya Foundation brings Oka and Raila together, the person to be supported should be the ODM leader.
One Kenya Alliance can only survive in only three scenarios. Scenario number one is- and this is what they are really hoping for- Raila does not run and, therefore, their flag bearer becomes the de-facto candidate.
The second option is to support Deputy President William Ruto, another frontrunner in 2022.
The third is to support the ODM leader.
If they decide to run on their own, they are not likely to be a formidable force. If you look at past elections, it has always been a two-horse race. That is the bitter truth.
Mt Kenya Foundation can only do one thing: put sense into the One Kenya Alliance.
However, all indications are that the foundation is going to support the candidate President Uhuru Kenyatta will support.
Let us not forget that even though the National Super Alliance fell part, both Oka and Raila have some form of working agreement with Kenyatta's party, Jubilee.
