ODM party leader Raila Odinga has received his second AstraZeneca vaccine jab.
Raila was vaccinated on Wednesday, seven weeks after getting the first dose on July 30.
Those getting AstraZeneca jab are advised to wait 12 weeks before getting their second dose.
The recommended interval between doses is 21 days for Pfizer-BioNTech and 28 days for Moderna. Johnson and Johnson is only one shot.
In a short message on Twitter, Raila urged all Kenyans to get vaccinated to curb the spread of Covid-19.
“…follow up for second jabs... It is the surest way of reining in this pandemic,” he said.
“Go and get vaccinated and tell a friend to tell a friend as well.”
According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, the government has administered 3,031,728 vaccines as at September 21 .
A total of 2,504,869 Kenyans have obtained the first dose, while 859,453 have received the two jabs.
The ministry has also administered 23,697 vaccines to both prison staff and inmates in correctional facilities across the country.
This means that almost half the doses received in the country have not been administered despite government calling for vaccination.
To increase uptake of the vaccine, head of public service Joseph Kinyua last month issued a memo warning all unvaccinated civil servants to get the jab or be treated as disciplinary cases.
In April, Raila said that he would also participate in the coronavirus vaccination exercise to boost Kenyans' confidence in the safety of the jab, stating that the vaccine is the only way to save the lives of Kenyans.
His comments came after he recovered from the virus following three negative tests.
Kenya’s effort to ensure at least 10 million people are vaccinated before Christmas received a major boost with the securing of additional vaccines from several countries.
