A lead investigator in the high profile murder case of lawyer Willie Kimani and two others has told court two suspects are still at large.

Chief Inspector Clement Mwangi, the officer who recommended to the DPP murder charges against four police officers and a civilian, yesterday said the two individuals who participated in the brutal killings are yet to be traced.

He said a key suspect identified only as Kamenju and a woman who monitored Willie, Josephat Mwenda and Joseph Muiruiri on June 23, 2016 while at Mavoko law court and handed them over to the killers are still out there.

“Your honour, I believe there are two people still at large. One is Kamenju, a man whom we have tried to trace but have not been successful,” he said.

The witness further added that the second suspect who is yet to be apprehended is a woman who was introduced to Peter Ngugi, the police informer, by Fredrick Leliman to help him identify Mwenda.

Ngugi, after being shown Mwenda by the woman, the prosecution says, went ahead to monitor the three in court eventually handing them over to the abductors a few metres from the court precincts.

During cross examination before High Court judge Jessie Lessit, Mwangi said it was while leaving court that Mwenda, his lawyer Willie and driver Muiruri were accosted and taken to the Syokimau AP camp.

“They were taken at about 12.30 by Leliman and Leonard  Mwangi,” he said.

When asked by lawyer Katwa Kigen who represents one of the accused Silvia Wanjiku,  if Leliman and Mwangi booked the victims at the AP camp personally since they were seniors, Mwangi said it was Sylvia’s duty as the in charge of the report office to have ensured they were booked.

“Sylvia was in charge of the report office and she was the custodian of the keys to the cell,” he said.

Further the witness explained that he recommended Silvia be charged with the murder because she had the intention of “collusion”.

“Her common plan was receiving, holding and handing them over to those who took them from the post,” Mwangi said.
