Police officers have launched an investigation over arson in Laikipia County.
According to police report, the suspected armed bandits torched down a store in Merigwiti Primary and intended to cause more damage.
The store containing building materials (wood) caught fire which was promptly put out with no damage to the school.
The National Police Service on Tuesday evening reported that an assessment of the school established that only the store was burnt down.
"The school had been closed due to insecurity and no one was injured during the incident. Security has been intensified and investigation into the attempted arson is ongoing," NPS-K said.
This follows rise in insecurity in the region following invasion of armed bandits in Laikipia Nature Conservancy.
In meeting by the National Security Advisory Committee on Saturday to review the security situation it was resolved that more security personnel will be sent to Laikipia to boost ongoing operations against bandits roaming there.
The meeting was more of an emergency over the persistence of attacks by gunmen.
Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho said the government will change tack in its approach to insecurity in the county after various interventions deployed failed to restore peace.
The PS described the Friday killing of two people as the breaking point of the government’s patience.
Suspected bandits attacked Pewa Farm in Laikipia West, shot dead two people before escaping.
