National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi joined Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua and former UNCTAD boss Mukhisa Kituyi to unveil a political dream team on Thursday.

The four said that the unveiled dream team will be in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta after the 2022 general elections.

During the launch, Muturi said the time for politicians to solicit endorsements from powerful individuals was over.

Muturi slammed ODM leader Raila Odinga, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi of ANC as people whose time had passed.

“They have been there for years, and as my friend, Karua usually reminds us ‘Garbage in, garbage out,” Muturi said.

At the same time, the speaker dismissed the hotel meetings that One Kenya Alliance has been holding as “unhelpful”, adding that the only endorsement that mattered was that of the Kenyan people and God.

“Kenyans must ask this important question: what kind of leaders are we putting in some of these positions? What we are looking for is good leadership; accountable leaders, leaders with integrity.”

“We need your support. We must walk together. We are responsible leaders, we care about service delivery in a transparent, trustworthy, and accountable manner.”

Kibwana said the meeting in Makueni was the first step in a journey to take over the reins of leadership in Kenya after President Kenyatta’s exit.

“Today is a big day. These are people who can bring about change you can trust. That’s our mantra. These are people with a track record of really helping our citizens,” Kibwana said.

The governor revealed that religious leaders, professionals, political parties, and several interest groups had expressed support for the trio.

“Very many people are calling us… and they are saying this is the future. They say they want to support us … people who have a history of doing the right thing.”

He added: “Muturi wants to be president, I want to be president and so does Mukhisa. All those who are honest about good leadership in this country will come together.”

The governor promised to announce the flagbearer of “Team Change” or “Muungano wa Wazalendo” at a later date.

“We will sit together and make a decision because we are not selfish for Kenya.”

With the appointment of four new commissioners, Muturi said the IEBC had to relook at the weaknesses revealed in the 2017 polling process and consult with the public to ensure they build trust ahead of the 2022 polls.

“If parties do not know what the IEBC is doing, we start creating doubts. It is not enough to say we have been appointed so and so to be a commissioner; we have to know about the system and the processes. Is it a system that people can trust in.”
