At least 10 people were rescued and rescuers were still at the site Tuesday morning after the building collapsed Monday afternoon.
The rescuers said they had not accessed all floors to be sure if all workers had been accounted for.
Kiambu police boss Ali Nuno said they recovered one body from the site on Monday evening.
Witnesses and police said the structure had reached the fifth floor and the workers had just worked on the slab when it collapsed.
A number of workers managed to escape from the rubble soon after the 3pm incident.
Those who escaped complained of injuries and pain.
It is not clear on the exact number of those trapped in the collapsed building that was meant to be a residential house.
Nuno said they suspect at least three more workers could be trapped under the rubble.
Nuno said they were looking for the owner of the house for grilling.
He said the owner of the collapsed building is being sought after it emerged that construction had been stopped after the developer failed to meet some requirements set by the Kiambu County Government.
A number of local leaders visited the scene before leaving.
Nairobi and Kiambu among other regions are experiencing a construction boom with most buildings going more than six floors.
There are fears some of these structures are being constructed without proper supervision.
