• Ruto described Prengei as a modest and distinguished public servant who was committed to championing the plight of the minority in Kenya.
• Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, in his message, said the Ogiek community and the country has lost a leader who represented great hope and aspirations.
Deputy President William Ruto and former vice-president Kalonzo Musyoka led leaders in sending their messages of condolence to the family of nominated senator, Victor Prengei who died on Monday night.
Prengei died in a road accident along Kabarak-Nakuru road on Monday night.
Ruto described Prengei as a modest and distinguished public servant who was committed to championing the plight of the minority in Kenya.
He added that Kenya has lost a great gentleman.
"He was progressive and full of ground-breaking thoughts that transformed the lives of many people. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, their loved ones, the Ogieks and our Parliament. Rest In Peace, Mheshimiwa Prengei," Ruto said in a tweet on Tuesday morning.
Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka said Prengei was a man who beat great odds to join the Senate and was a great inspiration to the youth and marginalized groups.
He noted that the late senator was a broad-minded and non-controversial gentleman whose cool mien will be missed.
"I am heartbroken and profoundly saddened to learn of the untimely death of Sen. VictorPrengei."
"On my own behalf and on behalf of the Senate fraternity, I convey my heartfelt and deepest condolences to his family and friends," Lusaka said.
Prengei served as Vice-Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Energy, member, Committee on Powers and Privileges; and Committee on Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations.
Prengei was a Jubilee nominated senator.
He was among the six senators who faced Jubilee disciplinary committee earlier this year.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, in his message, said the Ogiek community and the country has lost a leader who represented great hope and aspirations.
"Nominated Senator Victor Prengei will be greatly cherished. My condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in everlasting peace," he said.
Bungoma Senator, Moses Wetangula said Prengei was a dedicated legislator who was full of charm and promise, and that he was shocked to learn of his demise.
"He endeared himself to and was appreciated by all of us in the Senate. We must continue our efforts to make our roads safer," he said in a tweet.
