A section of ANC and Ford Kenya MPs have warned against attempts to postpone 2022 elections.

Speaking during a church service at ACK Emmanuel Riruta Church, Kawangware on Sunday, the leaders said the country must be guided by the constitution.

The service was also attended by ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula, Ayub Savula (Lugari), Chris Wamalwa (Kiminini) and Johnson Saka (Nairobi senator).

They said that they will shoot down any proposal brought in the House to extend the life of the current government.

Wetangula said Covid-19 should not be used as excuse to stop the 2022 elections.

They cited US, Uganda and Tanzania as some of the countries that have held elections during the pandemic.

"No one has authority to postpone elections. Tanzania, Uganda and US have held elections under Corona, we must learn to live even under stress," he said.

"We have a five year term, we will not allow anyone to try to postpone the elections. "

Mudavadi said Kenyans should elect someone with practical solutions to their myriad problems.

He said economic models offers no solution to the country's challenges.

"There is no room for economic models, lets identify the issues and have policy interventions to address them," he said.

The former presidential candidate was also accompanied by ANC nominated senator Petronila Were.

A section of MPs believed to have the blessings of the Executive are plotting to postpone next year’s general election, a move sure to trigger political fireworks.

The Star has established lawmakers led by Ndaragua MP Jeremiah Kioni are preparing to petition the High Court to postpone the election date to give the IEBC adequate time to conduct boundary delimitation.

The MPs say their move is meant to avert a constitutional crisis by going into an election with electoral units that are illegal.

At the heart of the elections postponement push are concerns nearly 200 constituencies do not meet the population threshold provided for in the Constitution.

The current population quota per constituency is 163,000 voters.
