Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has hired former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s key strategist during last elections.
Kalonzo on Monday announced changes to his 2022 team roping in Nasa chief executive officer Norman Magaya who worked closely with the ODM leader during the high stakes 2017 elections.
In what appears as a deliberate move by the former Vice President to assemble a team of technocrats as his political think tank ahead of 2022, Kalonzo also named Justine Kyambi as the new Wiper executive director taking over from university don Dr Jared Maaka Siso.
Siso, the longest serving Wiper executive director, is venturing into politics and will be contesting the Borabu parliamentary seat on a Wiper ticket during next year’s polls.
The current Borabu MP Ben Momanyi who was also elected on Wiper ticket has announced he will be contesting the Nyamira governor seat.
“Norman is a very famous name. He said before they wind up Nasa, they might wind him up as well. Norman, thank you so much for joining Wiper. He is going to work closely with the party leader going forward,” Kalonzo said.
Sources within Wiper said the Nasa CEO will be Kalonzo’s political adviser and will be tasked with writing press releases as well as being in charge of the party leader’s political strategies.
He will also be crucial in advising Kalonzo on coalition building and management ahead of the 2022 general election.

Magaya, an advocate of the High Court, served as the national returning officer for Nasa in the August 2017 election at the Bomas of Kenya.
He collapsed at the Bomas of Kenya in August 2017 during the tabulation of presidential votes in the 2017 general election and was admitted to Nairobi Hospital before being flown to India for specialised medical treatment after a heart attack.
Kalonzo also outsourced Kyambi for the crucial executive director’s position.
Kyambi was once a JKUAT lecturer specialising in human resource management.
“Justine Kyambi replaces Siso who has done five years in the party and wanted to go for Borabu parliamentary seat and needed adequate time for preparation,” Kalonzo said.
Speaking to the Star on phone, Siso confirmed he will be on the Borabu parliamentary race, adding that he needed time to prepare for the next year's elections.
“I had to leave at the right time so that I pursue this end,” he said on phone.
