Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani has called on the United Kingdom to invest in Kenya, especially in the activities promoting the Big four Agenda.
In a statement on Tuesday, Yatani said Kenya is open to friendly and sustainable business partnerships with the UK.
"We are particularly keen to strengthen our engagements with investors in the UK under the newly revitalised Public Private Partnership model. The reforms; from shortened processing time to simple and friendly investments procedures without compromising governance, has made the unit responsive to the private sector," the CS said.
Yatani who accompanied President Uhuru Kenyatta on his official three-day visit of UK made the remarks as he addressed a high level investment forum in London.
He noted that despite the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic globally, Kenya has remained a resilient economy, owing to the stable macro-economic environment, prudent debt management sustained interventions and efforts to promote private sector-led economic growth, among others.
"Kenya’s ‘Economic Transformation Agenda’ with impressive annual growth average of 5.6% in the last 8 years. This has lately been catalysed by sustained investments in President Kenyatta’s ‘Big Four Agenda’ which focuses on developments of: Food and nutritional security; Access to universal Health care, Affordable Housing and Manufacturing," Yatani said.
He added, "I give full assurance of the Kenya’s National Treasury and its agencies commitments to deliver solutions that will deliver value to investors and citizens of our two countries."
Speaking on Tuesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta urged UK investors to take advantage of 10 opportunities in Kenya worth up to $5 billion (Sh542 billion).
Uhuru said that Kenya has created an environment that makes it a key investor destination and that Kenya has adopted a private sector-led growth strategy as an integral component of Vision 2030 and the Big Four Agenda.
"We now have the opportunity to further deepen our excellent historical relationships, by offering a number of ripe PPP investment opportunities in Kenya. I invite the private sector in the United Kingdom to partner with us as we deliver on this vision for the people of Kenya," Uhuru said.
