A woman accused of abducting and torturing a 23-year-old businesswoman has been charged afresh with obtaining Sh270,000 in a fake watermelon deal.

Hafsa Ahmed is accused of obtaining the money from Halima Rashid on diverse dates in January in Kayole, Nairobi county, after falsely pretending that she was in a position to supply her with watermelon.

The police report said that after the complainant had paid the money, Hafsa kept promising that she would deliver the goods.

She, however, stopped picking up the complainant's calls, switched off her phone and went missing.

The complainant reported the matter to Kayole police station.

Hafsa pleaded not guilty to the charges before Makadara principal magistrate Eva Kanyiri on Thursday.

Through her lawyer Omayio Aranga', she asked the court to grant her lenient bond terms as she’s already overwhelmed by previous case bond terms.

“I pray for this court to look at my client with leniency as she has been admitted to a Sh1 million bond in another case. In any event, the purpose of the bail is to merely procure attendance of the accused person to court,” Aranga’ said.

Kanyiri granted her a bond of Sh150,000.

The matter will  be heard on November23.

Last week on Friday, Hafsa she was charged alongside her boyfriend Jackson Njogu with five counts among them abduction, conspiracy to commit a felony and assaulting Habsa Lukman.

The two were arrested in a lounge in Kinangop after police trailed them for days.

The court heard that Hafsa, who was well-known to the complainant, took her to Kayole junction within Nairobi county where she was to be incorporated into a watermelon supplying business before she was abducted.

Makadara chief magistrate Heston Nyagah on Thursday freed the two on a Sh 1 million bond.

Halima told police that she only knew of the accused's whereabouts after she saw the abduction case on TV.
