Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia has said the Jubilee government is committed to completing its agenda for development across the country.

Macharia spoke on Friday in Kiambaa constituency where he handed Kihara modern market to Kiambu county government, built by the national government.

He said Kenyans can attest that there is development being done by the government in all parts of the country.

"In all the 47 counties there are development projects being done by the government. Kenyans can see for themselves what we are doing," said Macharia.

Macharia was accompanied by Housing PS Charles Hinga, his Energy and Infrastructure counterparts Joseph Jjoroge and Paul Maringa, Kiambu Governor James nyoro, Deputy Governor Joyce Ngugi, Senator Kimani Wamatangi, Kiambu MP Jude Njomo, County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga and MCAs.

Macharia said that the market project was done through the Nairobi Metropolitan Services Improvement Project (NAMSIP), which was launched in the year 2020.

"We do not want people to say that we have come to hand over the market because there is an election in Kiambaa," said Macharia. Campaigns are on for the parliamentary by-election scheduled for July 15.

Macharia said that through the programme there are other markets in Kiambu county which are under construction including Juja, Ruiru, Githurai and Kikuyu.

Macharia said that in Kiambaa constituency the government will construct a road network of 91km at a cost of Sh3.2 billion and will be given to a contractor with a capacity to complete the roads in two years.

"The government has built and completed over 10,000 kilometers of road in the country and there are other roads still under construction and anybody claiming that the government has not done any work, that is politics," said Macharia.

He warned that without peace, the development agenda will be derailed. The projects that are being undertaken are long term and will continue even after the general elections.

PS Hinga said the government has continued to build modern markets in the country to improve the working environment for traders.

Governor Nyoro assured Kiambu residents that the five major modern markets built by the national government in the county will be complemented by 40 other small markets being built by the county government.

"The markets in Kiambu will be open 24 hours for seven days so as to enhance trade within the county," said Nyoro.

He said that the county will organise with the traders to start a cooperative so that the government can look for money to boost them.

"We want to identify those who are selling first class produce and we start advertising them outside the county and call on them to buy in Kiambu county rather than going to Nairobi," said Nyoro.

He called on Kiambaa residents to vote for Jubilee candidate Kariri Njama so that he completes the government agenda in the constituency.

"We are solid and united as a region and there is no day that we have ever said we are divided as a region. When time comes we will have one voice which will dictate what will be for the region in terms of leadership," Wamatangi said.
