US president Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden are mourning their German Shepherd dog, Champ.

"Our hearts are heavy today as we let you all know that our beloved German Shepherd, Champ, passed away peacefully at home," the President and first lady said in a statement on Saturday.

"He was our constant, cherished companion during the last 13 years and was adored by the entire Biden family."

The Bidens said Champ always wanted to be around the family and made them happy whenever he was around.

"He loved nothing more than curling up at our feet in front of a fire at the end of the day, joining us as a comforting presence in meetings, or sunning himself in the White House garden," the Bidens said,

"In his younger days, he was happiest chasing golf balls on the front lawn of the Naval Observatory or racing to catch our grandchildren as they ran around our backyard in Delaware."

According to them, Champ had been with the family during their "most joyful moments" and "most grief-stricken days."

"We love our sweet, good boy and will miss him always," the President and first lady said.

Former first lady Michelle Obama sent a message to the Bidens condloing them for their lose.

"Champ was such a good boy, and we know how much he meant to your family over the years. Barack and I are sending all our love to you, POTUS, and the entire Biden family," Michelle said.

In May, former US president Barrack Obama's family announced the death of their Portuguese Water Dog, Bo who died of cancer.

"Today our family lost a true friend and loyal companion. For more than a decade, Bo was a constant, gentle presence in our lives—happy to see us on our good days, our bad days, and everyday in between," Obama said.
