Kenya records 316 new virus cases, 12 deaths

Kenya on Sunday recorded 316 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country's case load to 163,554, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said.

The CS in a statement confirmed that this was from a sample size of 4,251 recording a positivity rate of 7.4 per cent.

The cumulative tests stand at 1,719,289.

The country's fatalities have risen to 2,895 after another 12 patients succumbed to the disease.

Kagwe said that there are 1,099 patients currently admitted in various hospitals across the country. Another, 6,290 patients are on the home-based care programme.

A total of 133 patients are in ICU, out of which 27 are on ventilatory support.

Also, 102 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen, out of which 96 are in general wards and six in the HDU.

Meanwhile, 62 patients have recovered from the disease out of which 23 were from the Homebased care program while 39 were discharged from various health facilities.

Kenya's recoveries now stand at 111,191.

The CS said 916,800 people have o far been vaccinated countrywide.
