18 succumb to virus as 572 people test positive

Kenya's Covid-19 fatalities have risen to 2,883.

Kenya on Saturday recorded 572 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country's case load to 163,238, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said.

The CS in a statement confirmed that this was from a sample size of 4,624 recording a positivity rate of 12.4 per cent.

The cumulative tests stand at 1,715,038.

The country's fatalities have risen to 2,883 after another 18 patients succumbed to the disease.

Kagwe said that there are 1,103 patients currently admitted in various hospitals across the country. Another, 6,295 patients are on the home-based care programme.

A total of 131 patients are in ICU, out of which 26 are on ventilatory support.

Also, 107 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen, out of which 99 are in general wards and eight in the HDU.

Meanwhile, 476 patients have recovered from the disease out of which 219 were from the Homebased care program while 257 were discharged from various health facilities.

Kenya's recoveries now stand at 111,129.

The CS said 915,968 people have been vaccinated countrywide.
