Two suspected gangsters have been shot dead by police officers in Kawangware.

The duo who were not immediately identified were suspected of terrorizing city residents on Wednesday night when they were fatally shot by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation.

In a statement via Twitter on Thursday, the DCI said police officers on patrol within stage 56 found the thugs allegedly attacking a man at gunpoint forcing them to swiftly intervene.

"The officers had challenged them to surrender but the thugs shot at them, triggering a fierce shootout that led to the death of the two, "the DCI said.

However, one of the suspected gangster managed to escape using a motorbike whose identification was concealed.

A firearm with one round of 9mm calibre was recovered at the scene and handed over to DCI ballistic experts for examination.

Meanwhile, bodies of the fatally wounded were moved to City mortuary, pending identification.
