DCI homicide sleuths have launched a probe into the murder of a man and death threats in Wajir County.
The Special unit from DCIO headquarters has been tasked to probe the cold murder of Abdillahi Yusuf that occurred earlier this year in Shelefy area in Wajir.
The team comprising forensic officers and Special Crime Prevention Unit has 10 days to finalise their investigations and handover the report to DPP for direction.
The detectives are probing how one Abdillahi Yusuf was killed in January this year under mysterious circumstances and mounting threats to the lives of investors in Wajir County.
Investigators believe the arrest and arraignment of a man who was threatening a businessman could advance the probe.
On March 18 this year, a man identified as Abdirahaman Mohamed Abdille was charged for threatening to kill a Nairobi and Mombasa based businessman Ibrahim Direye Santur.
On Friday, Wajir Director of Criminal Investigation DCI Kelly Kelo said that the murder of Yusuf and threats on the life of Santur could be linked to land ownership tussles in the area.
“The case of Abdulahi Yusuf is now being handled by detectives from DCI headquarters in Nairobi and for now I can’t speak much of it,” said Kelo in a phone interview.
According to the statements filed in court, Direye claims that Abdille accosted him in Wajir where he had gone to attend a court session and threatened to kill him.
The two have a civil case over land in court.
On March 18, Abdille however pleaded not guilty and was released on a Sh100, 000 bond at Wajir Law Court.
The case is set for mention on April 9.
“Upon arrival at the disputed piece of land in Shelefey, we alighted (from the car) and took a walked around and within less than 10 minutes Abdille emerged ….and armed with a long sword like a walking stick. He drew the knife and told me that he will kill me like Abdullahi Yusuf,” claims Direye in his statement.
Direyee claims he was rescued by two individuals named Abass and Mohamed who pushed him into the car and speed off.
Sleuths believe the investigations could be one among many involving growing fear and threats and against investors in the area.
Planned infrastructure projects in the area have caused skyrocketing land prices.
