Two women accused of trafficking a four-month-old baby have been detained at Industrial Area remand prison pending an application by the state to oppose their release on bail.

Grace Akinyi and Nelly Achieng will remain in custody until March 18 after Magistrate Martha Mutuku allowed the prosecution to file a formal application opposing their release on bail.

According to the charge sheet, the duo on March 1 this year at Uhuru Park conspired to traffick baby E.T a child aged four months for purposes of exploitation.

They also faced a second count in that on the same date, they transported and harboured the child from Nairobi to Bungoma to exploit it.

They are said to have abused the child's vulnerability.

Six witnesses have so far been scheduled to testify against the two.

The case will be mentioned on March 18.
