Deputy President William Ruto’s allies in the Rift Valley now say they will direct their resources to finance the recently launched United Democratic Alliance party as they have severed all links with Jubilee.

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and his Keiyo South counterpart Daniel Rono on Monday said they will never set foot in Jubilee offices as they have shifted their focus to UDA.

Sudi said they have resolved to completely terminate their support to the ruling Jubilee Party, including their monthly contribution.

Instead, they will channel their money to UDA, which they said Ruto will use to  vie for President in 2022

“If there is anyone still in Jubilee, then it should be President Kenyatta and Ruto. The rest of us left long ago and we are now in UDA,” Sudi said during a media briefing at his home in Eldoret.

Rono also said they have stopped financing Jubilee.  “We have only left them with Sh100 monthly just to take care of our names," he said.

Sudi, however, struck a rare reconciliatory tone, urging Kenyans to remain peaceful and united despite the changing political trends in the country.

He said Kenyans should pray for President Kenyatta to lead the country to the right direction as he prepares to retire.

“When you see our President holding meetings with sections of communities and speaking in a manner that can divide the country, then we really need to pray for him because what is happening in this country is not good at all,”Sudi said.

He said given Uhuru had publicly said he would support Ruto to take over from in 2022, it was not wrong for him to change his stand, adding that Kenyans would eventually decide on who leads the country after him.

The close Ruto ally said DP’s team will not waste time opposing the BBI because Kenyans would soon decide its fate at the referendum.

“We are not opposed to the BBI but those pushing it should ask themselves what Kenyans think about the process. We know that Kenyans are opposed to BBI because it widens the burden to the ordinary person and those pushing it have their own agenda,” he said.

He also said they will not lobby county assemblies to reject the BBI but noted that MCAs have the capacity to decide as per the wishes of the electorate in their respective areas.

“It seems Kenya has its owners and they want the BBI to pass. We will not oppose that and let them have their way but we will see in future,”Sudi said.

He urged residents in the Rift Valley to remain peaceful before, during and after next year’s polls.
