ODM leader Raila Odinga has once again dismissed the 'hustler' versus 'dynasty' politics, terming it misplaced.

Raila on Tuesday said that such politics has been misused and does not have a place in Kenya.

The opposition chief while addressing student leaders in Nairobi urged the academics to be at the forefront in championing a just society for the betterment of fellow youths.

“These are gimmicks; there is nothing serious about it. To me, hustler versus dynasty is completely misplaced. It does not have a place in modern Kenyan politics,” Raila said.

“The word hustler has been taken out of context. Some people are using it to hoodwink the youth who continue to languish in poverty and wallow in the state of hopelessness for their own personal gain. Youths must stand up and fight for their rights.”

The ODM leader said that his father Jaramogi Oginga Odinga rose from a poor background just like Kenya's first President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta whom he said was a meter reader but managed to rise to leadership.

“The idea of a hustler and dynasty does not exist in our country. All the leaders that we have had before are all hustlers. What is so special about somebody, because he was selling chicken? How does that make you different from President Kibaki who was a turner boy and Nyayo, and Mzee Kenyatta who was a meter reader?” he posed.

He said that BBI will address the injustices that have been meted out on the youth for years and will come up with solutions to their problems.

The opposition leader also opposed the proposal to have a multiple-question referendum, saying that it will be a disadvantage to some.

He added that those proposing a multiple question referendum are just opposing the BBI and have no courage to openly admit it, hence sugarcoating their proposals.

“If it will have about 10 questions, to tick or put an 'X'. For an illiterate, how long will that take? You are talking in terms of one person in an hour and you have 10 hours in a day…not all the voters are literate to differentiate between this and that,” he said.

He was accompanied by Siaya Senator James Orengo, MPs Esther Passaris (Nairobi MP), Abdulswamad Nassir (Mvita), Mishi Mboko (Likoni), Babu Owino (Embakasi East) and businesswoman Agnes Kagure.
