Covid-19: Thirty in ICU as three succumb to virus

New cases comprised 62 Kenyans and 18 foreign nationals

Thirty patients were admitted to the intensive care unit on Sunday due to Covid-19 complications.

From the number, 14 were on ventilator support, 13 were on supplemental oxygen while three were under observation.

“Another 13 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 12 of them in the general wards. One patient is in the high dependency unit,” Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said in a statement on Sunday.

Kagwe confirmed that 80 more people had tested positive for the virus from a sample size of 3,733 tests conducted in 24 hours.

This represents a positivity rate of 2.14 per cent. The new cases comprised 62 Kenyans and 18 foreign nationals aged between 11 months and 81 years old.

Meanwhile, the death toll rose to 1,731 after three more patients died. 

“Currently, there are 699 patients admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 1,642 are on home-based isolation and care,” Kagwe said.

 “Twenty-six patients have recovered from the disease. Twenty-four from the home-based isolation and care, while two are from various facilities. The total recoveries now stand at 82,350.”

Nairobi recorded 62 cases distributed in Kibra (nine), Westlands (seven), Dagoretti North (six), Ruaraka (five), while Embakasi West, Kamukunji, Lang’ata, Makadara and Starehe had four cases each.

Embakasi East, Roysambu had three cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi South and Kasarani had two cases each while Embakasi Central, Embakasi North and Mathare each had one case.

Meru recorded four cases; one each from Igembe South, Imenti Imenti North, Imenti South and Tigania West while Busia had three cases all from Teso North.

Kwale recorded three cases from Msambweni with Kiambu having two cases from Lari and Ruiru.

Kericho, Kilifi, Makueni, Mombasa, Nyandarua and Uasin Gishu recorded one case each from Kipkelion East, Kilifi South, Makueni, Mvita, Ol Kalou and Turbo respectively.
