The Energy, Petroleum Regulatory Authority Board has suspended Pavel Oimeke as Director-General of EPRA following his arrest on Thursday.

Oimeke spent the night at EACC basement cells after allegedly receiving a Sh200,000 bribe.

He is said to have received the bribe to approve the opening of a fuel station in Oyugis town.

In a statement on Monday, the Board chairman Jackton Ojwang said facts on the ethical status of the DG as well as the official statement by the EACC sealed his fate.

The Board appointed Daniel Kiptoo as replacement in acting position.

Prior to his appointment, Kiptoo was the legal Advisor to the Ministry of Energy and State Department of Petroleum, and is the Chairman of the Government's First Oil Committee. 

"Mr. Kiptoo has vast experience in the Energy and Petroleum Sectors with a bias in Policy Formulation, Regulation and Project and Structured Finance," Ojwang said.

The incoming Acting DG holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi and a Masters Degree in Petroleum Law and Policy from the University of Dundee, in Scotland.
