711 new virus cases as Kenyan numbers hit 83,316

Kenya on Sunday reported a total of 83,316 Covid-19 cases after 711 more people tested positive.

This was out of a sample size of 6,672 that was tested in 24 hrs.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe in a statement to newsrooms said so far cumulative tests stand at 885,933 since the first case was reported in March.

Of the new cases, 692 are Kenyans while 19 are foreigners with 468 being males and 243 being females.

The youngest is a one-year-old baby while the oldest is 92 years old.

According to the cases, Nairobi has 190 followed by Mombasa with 88.

Nakuru county has 78, Nyandarua 35, Murang'a 34, Kitui 30, Machakos 28, Nyeri 27, Embu 25, Busia 21, Kiambu 17 and Vihiga 16 cases.

While Kisumu county has 13 new cases, Kilifi and Isiolo each have 11 cases, Meru and Turkana each 10 cases, Bungoma and Kirinyaga each 9 cases and Laikipia 8 cases.

Kakamega county has 7 cases, Kajiado 6, Kwale and Homa Bay each 5 cases, Makueni 4 cases, Kisii, Uasin Gishu and Migori each 2 cases while Nandi, Samburu, Kericho, Tharaka Nithi, Baringo, Taita Taveta, Lamu and Bomet counties each have one case.

According to Kagwe, some 576 patients have recovered from the disease bringing the total number of recoveries to 54,975.

Of the new recoveries, 469 are from the Home-Based Care program while 107 from various hospitals across the country.

"Unfortunately, 7 patients have succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of fatalities to 1,452," the statement read.

Kagwe said currently there are 1,262 patients admitted in various hospitals across the country while 7,806 are on Home-Based Isolation and Care.

"68 patients are in Intensive Care Unit, 42 of whom are on ventilatory support and 24 on supplemental oxygen," the statement read in part.

Another 96 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen out of whom 73 are in general wards and 23 in High Dependency Unit-HDU.
