20-year old mother, daughter rescued from abductors in Siaya

Five suspects of the felony were nabbed during the rescue operation.

A 20-year old woman and her two-year-old daughter were on Tuesday rescued from their abductors in Luanda, Siaya county.

The two are said to have been kidnapped on November 2 from their home in Siaya's Sindindi area in a mysterious incident.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) said the rescue operation was conducted by a joint team of Ugunja-based officers.

 
 

"A woman and her two-year-old daughter who went missing a week ago were rescued from a gang of five abductors," the DCI said via Twitter.

"Acting on intelligence, the officers raided two separate houses within Luanda township in Siaya where the two victims had been confined. Five suspects who detectives established were behind the heinous felony were nabbed during the rescue operation."

According to the directorate, the two-year-old victim was being kept in the custody of an 18-year old woman while her mother was held separately over unestablished motive.

The suspects aged between 18 to 29 years are believed to be the gang behind a spate of violent robberies reported within the county.

The DCI sleuths managed to recover a Toyota Premio alleged to be the vehicle which the victims were hurled during the abduction.

The incident occurred barely five months after police arrested three people h for kidnap and demanding Sh150,000 ransom in Meru county.

Patrick Kimathi, Joseph Karithi and Daniel Muroki all aged below 30 years were arrested after a missing person report was lodged.

 
 

DCI said that the report had been made at Kangeta Police Station in Meru County on June 19, 2020.

A team of detectives working jointly with Police officers then mounted an intelligence-led operation within Kiutune area of Igembe Central Sub-County.

The officers zeroed in Njuri Ncheke forest in Mpinda village where the suspicious individuals were sighted as they attempted to escape.

They were arrested with the help of members of the public.
