A woman accused of biting a seven-year-old girl's thigh and using a chapati roller to assault her was Monday charged with causing cruelty to a child.

Aysha Masoud Fajin was charged before Kibera senior resident magistrate Renee Kitagwa. She denied the charges and was granted Sh200,000 bond. The case will be mentioned on November 4.

Fajin is accused of inflicting several bite wounds on the body of the girl and using a chapati roller to beat her up.

The charge sheet says the accused committed the offence on diverse dates between 2017 and October 17, 2020 when she was arrested.

She is accused of assaulting the minor within Kibera subcounty in Nairobi and causing suffering to her health.

According to the police, Fajin took the child from her parents in Tanzania and brought her to Kenya where she had been mistreating her.

Police say the woman bit various parts of the girl's body.

The child was rescued by a social worker who had visited the plot where they lived. The worker heard the girl crying and sought to know why.

The Good Samaritan had visited the plot to pay condolences to a friend who had been bereaved.

They decided to check and realised that the minor was badly assaulted by the aunt. They reported the matter to police.

The police report says that during cross-examination by a doctor, multiple injuries were found on the girl's body and that she was still hospitalised.
