Man who shaved dreadlocks to evade arrest for cohabiting with minor arrested

Detectives led to social media platform where suspect befriended and lured the minor.

A man who cohabited with a minor and later shaved his dreadlocks to evade police has been arrested.

Marcos Menza alias Vasco 23, was arrested at Mathare Police Depot in Nairobi on Monday.

DCI director George Kinoti said intelligence drawn from forensic analysis led detectives to a social media platform where the suspect befriended and lured the minor to his house.

 

"... the two cohabited for the period before facilitating her escape to her aunt's place in Nyakach, Kisumu County," Kinoti said.

Kinoti cautioned parents to be very vigilant in monitoring what sites their children visit on the internet.

"...especially during this Covid-19 period where kids are being issued with electronic gadgets to attend online classes," he said.

He gave a stern warning to anyone who will be found taking advantage of or violating the rights of children by exposing them to materials and content that is by law unsuitable for their exposure.

The 13-year-old is a is a class eight pupil and was missing since October 11.

She was later found on October 17.

DCI  detectives working in collaboration with Nairobi Region detectives said they traced the girl to the home.

 

Her uncle had reported she went missing a day before she could travel to school in Kisumu.

The matter had been reported in Nairobi.
