- The trio widely discussed the political situation in the country with regards to elections which are barely two years away
- Both Kibwana and Karua took to social media soon after the meeting and encouraged leaders to talk to each other.
Party leaders Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Martha Karua (Narc Kenya) and Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana are in talks over a possible alliance.
The three held a closed-door meeting at a Nairobi hotel on Tuesday. The discussion was centred on the 2022 general elections, state of the nation and calls for an inclusive government.
Each of them has declared interest for the top seat in 2022 with Kibwana, who is serving his second and final term as the Makueni governor, having met the ANC leader twice in less than a month.
“The trio widely discussed the political situation in the country with regards to elections which are barely two years away. With calls for an inclusive structure of government, Tuesday’s meeting also gave a reflection on whether the country should be dragged into early campaigns,” a source told the Star.
Kibwana took to social media soon after the meeting and encouraged leaders to talk to each other.
“Kenyan leaders must engage in constructive dialogue. We must guarantee peace as we go towards 2022 and beyond,” he wrote on his Twitter page.
Karua also wrote on Twitter: “As leaders, we must be open to speak to each other, and to as many as are available to deliberate on issues affecting us.”
Mudavadi said he met Karua and Kibwana for “discussions on the state of the nation and emerging economic, social and political scenarios.”
Mudavadi met the Narc Kenya leader privately on May 28 in the company of former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth and Sally Kosgey, the last head of Public Service in President Daniel arap Moi's regime.
Karua again hinted at a possible alliance of her Narc Kenya with ANC and other parties ahead of the 2022 General Election.
She is in talks with Mudavadi and like-minded people to push for a united country and put it on the path of economic development.
Three weeks ago, Mudavadi kicked off his meet-the-people tour starting with the larger Mt Kenya region and Kajiado.
Many similar tours are planned as he reaches out to other leaders in a bid to establish a solid support base for his 2022 presidential bid.
Mudavadi has been meeting North Eastern and Coast leaders at Musalia Mudavadi Centre in Nairobi to prepare for a tour of their areas.
On September 17, he was in Nyaribo Village in Nyeri Town constituency where he drummed up support for his candidature.
It was his second time in the larger Mt Kenya region in a span of two weeks. The last visit was in Murang’a county.
In August, the ANC chief met various groups including current and former leaders from the larger Mt Kenya region at the Musalia Mudavadi Centre.
He positioned himself as “Mt Kenya’s safest pair of hands” to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
