Covid death toll hits 707 as seven more die

The youngest new case is s a six-month-old infant, while the oldest is aged 91.

Seven more Kenyans have died of Covid-19 based on new numbers announced by the Health ministry on Tuesday.

New cases totalled 210, raising the caseload to 38,378. They were from a sample of 3,604 tested in a day, tests conducted since March now totalling 545,019.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said all the new cases were Kenyans except 10. They comprised 127 males and 83 females. The youngest is a six-month-old child, while the oldest is aged 91.

 

“Today, 59 people have recovered from the disease, 49 from the home-based care, while 10 have been discharged from hospitals,” Kagwe said.

Fifty-five new cases were from Nairobi. The county's seven cases were from Starehe. Embakasi East and Westlands five cases each, and Embakasi South, Roysambu, and Kasarani with four cases each.

Dagoretti North, Embakasi Central, Makadara and Ruaraka recorded three each, while Dagoretti South, Embakasi North, Embakasi West, Kamukunji, Kibra, Lang’ata and Mathare had two each.

Kericho county recorded the second-highest number after registering 36 new cases. Its 35 cases were from Ainamoi, with the remaining case from Belgut.

Kitui county had 24 cases all from Kitui Central. Kiambu county recorded 21 cases — nine from Lari, three from Thika, two from Kabete and Limuru and one each from Githunguri, Juja, Kiambu Town, Kikuyu and Ruiru.

Other counties with new infection include Mombasa with 15, Kisumu 10, Kisii eight, Kilifi six, Turkana five, Embu four, Wajir two, while Machakos, Kakamega, Kwale, Nandi and Kajiado each had one case.

In Mombasa, Jomvu had seven, Mvita four, Kisauni three and Likoni one. In Kisumu, Kisumu Central had five, Kisumu West three and Kisumu East two.

 

Four of the cases in Kisii are from Nyaribari Chache while two were from Bobasi and Kitutu Chache South each.

Five of the cases from Kilifi are from Magarini and one from Kilifi South, while in Turkana the cases were from Turkana West (four) and Turkana Central (one).

One of the cases in Embu was from Manyatta, with the remaining three from Runyenjes. Two cases in Wajir were from Wajir West.

The cases in Machakos, Kakamega, Kwale, Nandi and Kajiado are from Machakos town, Malava, Msambweni, Chesumei and Kajiado North respectively.
