ODM on Saturday announced shelving the planned elections of its grassroots officials citing Covid 19 pandemic.
Instead, the Raila Odinga led party has resolved to conduct a harmonisation exercise to fill vacant positions in its leadership.
"The National Executive Council has resolved to conduct a harmonized exercise to fill existing gaps in the party resulting from deaths, resignations or defections to the polling station level to national level," secretary-general Edwin Sifuna announced at the end of a two day NEC strategy meeting held at Stoni Athi River Resort in Athi River, Machakos county.
Raila chaired the meeting of the party's powerful organs in what can be viewed as attempts by the former prime minister to put his house in order ahead of the high stakes presidential elections in 2022.
Sifuna said in a statement that harmonization at the polling station and ward levels shall be undertaken by the party members next month.
Thereafter, a similar exercise will be undertaken at the branch and county levels. National Elections Board and the National Secretariat will oversee the exercise.
"A detailed schedule shall be released by NEB in the coming weeks. Once these are concluded, we shall then conduct the same harmonization at the national level," he said.
He added, "It is expected that this exercise will be concluded not later than December 2020."
Meanwhile, the Orange party has restructured it legal affairs Committee as it seeks to revamp itself ahead of the 2022 polls.
In the new reorganization, Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi will chair the team.
Those who will sit in the committee are senator Judy Pareno, Barbara Malowa, Fred Orego, Sophey Amutavi, Nelson Osiemo, Jane Matoke, Jackson Awele, Antony Opondo and Eric Changorok.
