Kenya Power has announced a major blackout in sections of Nairobi due to a technical fault on Saturday.

In a statement, Kenya Power said Westlands, Gigiri, Kileleshwa, Ngong, Ridgeways, Kitisuru, Dagoretti and Karen are affected.

"Our technical team is on the site to resolve the issue and normalise power supply. We apologise for any inconveniences," it said.

Last month, Kenya Power moved in to resolve electricity transmission equipment shortage occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic, which disrupted its supplies.

When international air travel was stopped in March to contain the spread of the virus, the utility firm was hit by a shortage of equipment mainly from China which was under lockdown.

KPLC has been receiving outages complaints from consumers in different parts of the country, with faulty transformers being among the problems.
