Two women arrested at JKIA with 148kg of miraa

Detectives based at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport arrested two female foreigners in possession of 148kg of concealed miraa.

Ahmed Hibak Nooradin and Mahmud Duniyo were arrested and are in police custody pending more investigations before arraignment.

Police said that the two suspects had concealed miraa by wrapping it in maroon nylon paper bags inside their four large traveling bags.

 

They failed to declare the luggage to authorities until it was detected during screening as they were preparing to depart to Norway.

On Monday, security officers based at JKIA confiscated 150 cartons of miraa that were labeled as 'Fine Beans' and 'Ravaya' for export.

The khat had been packed in the motor vehicle with registration number KAW 122R at the Airways Cargo Export section before being intercepted by the officers.

It was discovered that the cartons contained french beans and eggplants at the top but had miraa concealed underneath.

Six suspects namely Ahmed Habib, James Ngure, Duke Mutambo, Raphael Ngotho, Stephen Ngugi, and Julius Mulwa have been arrested.

On September 14, DCI sleuths arrested two foreigners with dry and fresh khat at the JKIA.

Bare Adam and Osman Mohamed were arrested as they prepared to fly out of the country.
