A 12-year-old boy drowned in the Indian Ocean at Likoni on Thursday.
Shelly beach management official Ali Saidi, who was part of the team that retrieved the body, said residents continue to go to the beach despite being asked to stay away.
The accident happened at 2pm, according to witnesses.
Likoni subcounty police commander Jane Munywoki confirmed the incident and said the body had been taken to Coast General Hospital mortuary.

“We keep warning people. Normally they don’t come but today there were many people swimming. When they realised the boy had died, they all vanished,” Saidi said on the phone.
Mombasa police boss Augustine Nthumbi said the ban on going to beaches had not been lifted.
Members of the public, however, have been frequenting Pirates, Mombasa and Bamburi beaches.
