Five more deaths as virus cases rise to 35,603

143 more people have tested positive for Covid-19.

Kenya on Thursday recorded 143 new cases of Covid-19, raising the country's total to 35,603, Health CAS Rashid Aman confirmed.

This was from a sample of 3,854 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative tests to 485,836. 

 Aman confirmed that all were Kenyans except 14 who were foreigners.

 
 

Speaking during the daily Covid-19 briefing from Mathari National Teaching and Referral hospital, Aman said age wise, the youngest was a nine-month-old infant while the oldest was 83 years old. 

Nairobi led in the daily positivity rate, recording 35 cases in the last 24 hours.

Other counties with new cases include; Kitui 23, Mombasa nine, Garissa nine, Kiambu 9, Nakuru 9, Kilifi eight, Turkana seven, Kajiado five, Machakos five, Kisii four, Kisumu four, Embu two, Makueni two, Trans Nzoia two, Nyeri two, Uasin Gishu two while Migori, Busia, Isiolo, Taita Taveta and Meru has one case each.

Another 490 patients have recovered from the disease, bringing  the total number of recoveries in the country so far to 22,047.

A total of 248 of those discharged were from the home-based programme, while 242 were discharged from various health facilities.

The number of fatalities rose to 612 after another five patients succumbed to the virus.
