A woman was on Tuesday charged with impersonating a KDF officer and defrauding three unsuspecting Kenyans of Sh1.85 million by promising them jobs in the military.

Lucy Catherine Mutitu denied the charges before Kibera senior principal magistrate Philip Mutua.

The charge sheet says on diverse dates between April 2019 and July this year, Mutitu obtained Sh850,000 from Thomas Ousuru Osoma with intent to defraud, promising to help him get a job with the KDF.

She is also accused of obtaining Sh100,000 from Leonard Etyang Okemer and Sh500,000 from Salome Nthenya during the same period with the same promise.

The suspect promised Nthenya that she would help her sister join the military and received Sh500,000 from her.

Mutitu was also charged with other counts of impersonating a KDF officer based in Garissa county to the complainants and requesting bribes.

The prosecution did not object to her release on bond.

She was released on a Sh500,000 bail or a bond of Sh1 million with a surety of the same amount.
